Technical Producer

Role

Coordinates technical planning, dependencies, teams, risks, and delivery across creative and engineering work.

Description

A Technical Producer manages the production of technical work. They help translate creative goals into technical tasks, schedules, dependencies, budgets, risks, and delivery plans. The role sits between production management and technical leadership.

In immersive media, technical producing is vital because the experience often depends on software, hardware, sensors, networks, builds, installation, and support systems working together. The Technical Producer helps the team understand what is technically required, what is risky, and what needs to be tested before public presentation.

Discipline-Specific Description

Within production and project leadership, the Technical Producer makes technical work manageable and accountable. They help ensure that creative and technical teams share the same understanding of scope, readiness, and delivery.

Scope Note

May include technical schedules, task tracking, dependency management, budget inputs, vendor coordination, hardware planning, build milestones, risk registers, testing plans, technical meetings, and delivery requirements.

Boundary Note

The Technical Producer is different from a Technical Director. The Technical Director usually owns technical direction and architecture; the Technical Producer manages the production process around technical work.

Collaboration Note

Commonly works with producers, technical directors, developers, designers, QA testers, build engineers, installation technicians, vendors, venue teams, and project managers.
