Immersive Producer

Role

Produces projects where experience, interaction, technology, installation, and audience operation are tightly linked.

Description

An Immersive Producer specializes in producing projects where the audience enters, navigates, inhabits, or participates in an experience rather than simply watching it. They understand the combined needs of creative development, real-time technology, spatial design, interaction, installation, facilitation, safety, and audience flow.

This role matters because immersive work often fails when it is produced as if it were only film, theater, software, or exhibition. An Immersive Producer helps the team plan for the specific conditions of embodied, spatial, interactive, or headset-based experience.

Discipline-Specific Description

Within production and project leadership, the Immersive Producer translates creative ambition into a workable production plan for immersive media. They help coordinate the many departments and presentation conditions that shape the participant’s experience.

Scope Note

May include immersive project planning, team building, production workflow, budget strategy, technical coordination, installation needs, audience operations, accessibility planning, safety, testing, festival delivery, and partner communication.

Boundary Note

The Immersive Producer is not necessarily the creative director, technical director, or installation designer. Their role is to coordinate the production conditions that allow those forms of authorship to succeed.

Collaboration Note

Commonly works with directors, experience designers, developers, technical producers, installation teams, funders, venue partners, facilitators, accessibility advisors, and distribution teams.
