Manages the requirements, delivery, publishing, hosting, updates, and constraints of a platform or distribution channel.

Description

A Platform Manager oversees how an immersive work is delivered, maintained, updated, or presented through a specific platform or technical channel. This may involve an app store, web platform, social VR platform, headset ecosystem, museum system, streaming service, learning platform, or internal distribution system.

In immersive media, platform management affects access, discoverability, compatibility, updates, user accounts, analytics, support, and long-term availability. The role helps make sure the work remains usable after the initial launch.

Discipline-Specific Description

Within distribution and operations, the Platform Manager keeps the work aligned with the requirements and realities of the platform where it lives. They help manage updates, access, support, documentation, and communication with platform partners or internal teams.

Scope Note

May include platform requirements, account access, release processes, content updates, metadata, store pages, compatibility checks, analytics, user support, partner communication, and issue tracking.

Boundary Note

Platform management overlaps with distribution, technical support, marketing, build deployment, and operations. Its center is the relationship between the work and the platform through which people access it.

Collaboration Note

Commonly works with distribution producers, build engineers, developers, marketing leads, publicists, technical support operators, platform partners, and producers.
