Platform Packaging

Method

A technical delivery method for preparing a project so it can run, install, update, or be distributed on a target platform.

Description

Platform packaging turns a working project into something that can be deployed. In immersive media, this may mean a headset build, app store package, installer, web release, sideloaded version, or festival build. It also includes the settings and documents needed to launch, update, and support the work.

Typical Use

Used near delivery for VR, AR, mixed reality, mobile AR, desktop builds, web-based work, app store releases, festivals, touring installations, and internal test builds.

Scope Note

This method may include build settings, signing, permissions, installers, version naming, store metadata, device deployment, update testing, and release notes.

Boundary Note

The focus is deployment: whether the project can be installed, launched, maintained, updated, and accepted by the target platform or venue.

Collaboration Note

Usually involves real-time developers, technical directors, producers, QA testers, platform specialists, distribution leads, and venue or support technicians.
