Festival Producer

Role

Produces festival presentation, logistics, communication, scheduling, and stakeholder coordination for immersive works.

Description

A Festival Producer manages the practical presentation of a work within a festival context. They help coordinate deadlines, delivery materials, install requirements, schedules, travel, staffing, technical needs, guest communication, and festival-team relationships.

In immersive media, festivals can be technically demanding. A work may need special hardware, room setup, timed sessions, facilitators, headset cleaning, accessibility planning, technical rehearsals, or emergency support. The Festival Producer helps the project meet festival requirements while protecting the quality of the presentation.

Discipline-Specific Description

Within production and project leadership, the Festival Producer connects the project team to the festival’s operational reality. They help ensure the work is ready to be installed, staffed, explained, and run in a festival environment.

Scope Note

May include festival communication, delivery deadlines, travel coordination, technical riders, install planning, staffing, schedules, accreditation, guest lists, public run logistics, and problem solving during the event.

Boundary Note

The Festival Producer is different from a Festival Strategist. Strategy focuses on where and when to submit; festival production focuses on making a selected presentation work in practice.

Collaboration Note

Commonly works with producers, festival teams, technical directors, installation crews, facilitators, publicists, artists, travel coordinators, and distribution producers.
