Game Designer

Role

Designs mechanics, rules, goals, feedback, agency, progression, and play structures.

Description

Brings the logic of play and mechanic-driven interaction into immersive media, especially when the work depends on goals, rules, challenge, discovery, or progression.

Experience Design Description

Within Experience Design, the Game Designer shapes playable structure: what counts as an action, what changes when it happens, how participants learn the rules, and how challenge, curiosity, or mastery develops.

Scope Note

Mechanics, goals, rules, progression, challenge, rewards, balancing, player agency, feedback loops, and playful discovery.

Boundary Note

Not all immersive experiences are games; this role should not force scoring, competition, challenge, or gamification where the work needs contemplation or presence.

Collaboration Note

Works with experience designers, systems designers, interaction designers, developers, narrative designers, technical artists, and playtest leads.
