Systems Designer

Role

Designs rules, states, feedback loops, and behaviors that shape the experience over time.

Description

Defines how parts of the experience behave together over time through rules, state changes, progression logic, adaptive behavior, and feedback loops.

Experience Design Description

Within Experience Design, the Systems Designer makes experiential logic explicit. The role is useful when participant actions, world states, branching structures, AI behavior, or progression systems must remain coherent across many possible situations.

Scope Note

Rules, variables, state changes, feedback loops, progression, behavioral logic, adaptive systems, branching structures, and interaction outcomes.

Boundary Note

Overlaps with game design and software architecture, but focuses on experiential logic and behavior rather than only code structure or play mechanics.

Collaboration Note

Works with game designers, interaction designers, developers, technical artists, narrative designers, AI or behavior developers, and playtest leads.
