Tabletop Walkthrough

Technique

A planning technique for stepping through an experience using maps, cards, tokens, diagrams, or other small-scale materials.

Description

A tabletop walkthrough lets the team test structure before building the full experience. It can show how people, scenes, choices, staff actions, technical cues, or objects move through a sequence. In immersive work, it is useful for finding gaps in logic, timing, access, and handoff.

Typical Use

Used during experience prototyping, journey mapping, installation planning, branching narrative design, facilitation rehearsal, and stakeholder review.

Scope Note

This technique may include maps, cards, tokens, beat sequences, staff roles, system states, route notes, and discussion prompts.
