Facilitation Rehearsal

Method

A rehearsal method for testing how staff introduce, support, reset, and close an immersive experience for participants.

Description

Facilitation rehearsal prepares the human layer of an immersive work. It tests what facilitators say, when they intervene, how they handle confusion or discomfort, how they manage timing, how they reset the experience, and how they support participants without breaking the intended experience.

Typical Use

Used for public VR installations, museums, festivals, immersive theatre, participatory works, education settings, multi-user experiences, and projects that require onboarding, supervision, or live support.

Scope Note

This method can include facilitator scripts, onboarding practice, reset practice, emergency procedures, participant handoff, accessibility support, troubleshooting drills, timing checks, and closing or offboarding rehearsal.

Boundary Note

Facilitation rehearsal tests both staff readiness and experience design. Facilitator behavior can change pacing, tone, clarity, safety, and meaning.

Collaboration Note

Usually involves facilitators, producers, directors, experience designers, interaction designers, technical support staff, accessibility leads, and venue or front-of-house teams.
