Compositor

Role

Combines visual elements into coherent final imagery for video, projection, capture, or hybrid media.

Boundary Note

Compositing is distinct from real-time shader work, editing, color grading, and 3D asset creation, though it often depends on or prepares material for those processes.

Collaboration Note

VFX artists, cinematographers, video editors, colorists, 3D artists, technical artists, art directors, and producers.

Description

A Compositor combines visual layers into coherent final images or sequences. The role may involve keying, layering, color integration, cleanup, tracking, matte work, effects integration, and finishing for video, projection, volumetric, or hybrid immersive media.

Discipline-Specific Description

In immersive production, compositing may support 360 video, projection, installation media, volumetric capture, documentation, trailers, UI sequences, or pre-rendered elements inside real-time work. It helps unify material captured or produced across different sources.

Scope Note

Layering, keying, matte work, cleanup, tracking, integration, color matching, effects compositing, rendered passes, video finishing, and visual continuity.
