Timing Pass

Technique

A review technique for checking whether the timing of movement, interaction, sound, cues, scenes, or staff actions feels right.

Description

A timing pass focuses on rhythm and duration. It checks whether moments happen too early, too late, too fast, or too slowly. In immersive work, timing affects clarity, comfort, emotion, safety, and the participant’s sense of agency.

Typical Use

Used during animation blocking, rehearsal workshops, sound implementation, onboarding design, playtesting, cue rehearsal, and final polish.

Scope Note

This technique may include cue timing, scene duration, interaction response time, transition pacing, reset timing, facilitator timing, and notes from participant observation.
