Prototype

Production Phase

Making partial test versions to explore interaction, experience, feasibility, and form.

Description

Prototype is the phase where teams make partial, provisional, or rough versions of a work or component in order to learn. Prototypes may test interaction, comfort, story logic, spatial scale, technical feasibility, performance, installation flow, or audience comprehension.

Scope Note

Includes paper prototypes, greybox builds, interaction tests, system spikes, spatial mockups, performance tests, and playable slices. Prototypes should answer specific questions and should not automatically become production code or final design.
