Installation Producer

Role

Produces the installed presentation of an immersive work, including site, hardware, staffing, and operations.

Description

An Installation Producer manages the production of an immersive work as it enters a physical venue. They coordinate the people, materials, equipment, schedules, access, safety, testing, and handoffs needed to install and present the work.

In immersive media, installation is often where the project becomes real for the public. The same software or artwork can succeed or fail depending on room layout, power, sound, lighting, hardware placement, staff training, accessibility, reset procedures, and audience flow. The Installation Producer helps hold those conditions together.

Discipline-Specific Description

Within production and project leadership, the Installation Producer turns a designed experience into a working public setup. They coordinate between the creative team, technical team, venue, operations staff, and public-facing teams.

Scope Note

May include venue coordination, install schedules, equipment lists, crew planning, room requirements, risk checks, accessibility needs, safety procedures, technical rehearsals, staff training, and opening readiness.

Boundary Note

The Installation Producer is different from the Installation Technician or Technical Support Operator. The producer coordinates the whole installation process; technicians and operators carry out specific setup, maintenance, or support tasks.

Collaboration Note

Commonly works with producers, technical directors, installation technicians, venue staff, facilitators, accessibility advisors, designers, developers, and operations teams.
