Creates original music that supports emotion, rhythm, theme, atmosphere, pacing, or transition.

Description

A Composer creates musical material that supports mood, structure, emotion, pacing, identity, and transformation. In immersive media, composition may be linear, adaptive, spatial, generative, interactive, or tied to participant behavior and system state.

Discipline-Specific Description

Within Sound, Music & Voice, the Composer defines the musical dimension of the work. The role may involve writing themes, creating adaptive music systems, producing stems, collaborating on spatial music, and shaping how music enters, exits, or responds to participant action.

Scope Note

Includes score, motifs, stems, loops, adaptive layers, generative music elements, musical transitions, emotional pacing, and coordination with sound design and implementation.

Commonly collaborates with creative directors, narrative leads, sound designers, spatial audio designers, audio engineers, implementation audio designers, producers, performers, and developers.
