Structure Notes

Technique

A review technique for recording comments about the order, pacing, clarity, and shape of a story or experience.

Description

Structure notes help the team see how the experience is holding together. They focus on sequence, transitions, participant role, tension, repetition, and whether each part supports the whole. In immersive work, structure includes both story order and the participant’s movement through space and interaction.

Typical Use

Used during dramaturgical review, story mapping, journey mapping, rehearsal, playtesting, and script development.

Scope Note

This technique may include scene notes, transition notes, pacing notes, participant-role notes, repeated beats, missing context, and suggested cuts or moves.
