Spline Pass

Technique

An animation technique for refining motion after the main poses and timing have been set.

Description

A spline pass smooths and refines animated movement. It helps remove unwanted stiffness, pops, or uneven timing. In immersive work, the pass should be checked from the participant’s viewpoint because polished motion can still feel wrong at the wrong scale or distance.

Typical Use

Used during animation blocking, character animation, motion capture cleanup, interaction feedback, avatar production, and final polish.

Scope Note

This technique may include curve cleanup, easing, timing refinement, arc checks, pose transitions, viewpoint review, and final animation notes.
