Scale Test

Technique

A spatial technique for checking whether size, distance, height, and proportion feel right in an immersive experience.

Description

A scale test checks how the world feels from the participant’s point of view. In immersive work, scale affects presence, comfort, intimacy, readability, and trust. Small errors in object size, camera height, or room dimensions can make an experience feel wrong even when the content is otherwise clear.

Typical Use

Used during blockouts, 3D asset production, experience prototyping, 360 camera blocking, photogrammetry capture, room-scale design, and QA.

Scope Note

This technique may include headset review, object-size checks, room-size checks, camera-height checks, reach checks, performer distance, and participant feedback.
