Preservation Notes

Technique

A documentation technique for recording how an immersive project, asset, build, or installation should be preserved over time.

Description

Preservation notes help future teams understand what needs to be kept and why. They may describe files, software versions, hardware needs, installation conditions, rights issues, dependencies, and known risks. In immersive work, preservation is difficult because the experience may depend on devices, platforms, staff, space, or live operation.

Typical Use

Used during archive work, metadata packaging, platform packaging, exhibition operations planning, documentation, and project handoff.

Scope Note

This technique may include file lists, version notes, hardware requirements, software dependencies, install instructions, rights notes, risk notes, and contact details.
