Pose Blocking

Technique

An animation technique for setting the key poses that define movement, timing, attitude, or performance.

Description

Pose blocking establishes the main body positions before animation is polished. It helps the team check whether a movement reads clearly and supports the intended character, action, or interaction. In immersive work, poses must also work from the participant’s viewpoint and at the intended scale.

Typical Use

Used during animation blocking, motion capture cleanup, character animation, avatar design, rehearsal review, and interaction feedback.

Scope Note

This technique may include key poses, timing notes, silhouette checks, viewpoint review, gesture clarity, performance notes, and revision passes.
