Performance Capture Technician

Role

Operates systems that record body, face, voice, or performance data for animation, avatars, and interactive characters.

Description

A Performance Capture Technician helps record body, face, voice, or movement data from performers. They support the capture system, prepare performers or equipment, monitor data quality, and help make sure the recorded performance can be used later.

In immersive media, this work can affect the believability of characters, avatars, guides, or embodied performances. Small technical problems during capture can become visible as broken motion, poor facial detail, mismatched timing, or unusable takes.

Discipline-Specific Description

Within capture and recorded-media production, the Performance Capture Technician supports the technical side of recording performance. They help the creative team capture human expression in a form that animators, developers, and technical artists can use.

Scope Note

May include marker or suit setup, camera or sensor checks, calibration, data monitoring, take logging, performer support, troubleshooting, capture notes, and coordination with animation or post-production teams.

Boundary Note

The Performance Capture Technician supports the capture process and data quality. They do not usually direct the performance, own character animation, or design the final interaction system.

Collaboration Note

Commonly works with motion capture directors, performers, animators, riggers, technical directors, producers, data wranglers, developers, and post-production teams.
