Material Test

Technique

A visual or fabrication technique for testing how a material looks, feels, performs, or behaves before final production.

Description

A material test checks whether a material choice works in context. The material may be digital, physical, or both. In immersive projects, material tests can affect mood, safety, comfort, durability, tracking, lighting, performance, and participant trust.

Typical Use

Used during look development, fabrication prototyping, 3D asset production, shader development, installation planning, and safety review.

Scope Note

This technique may include digital material tests, physical samples, lighting checks, durability checks, touch tests, tracking checks, shader tests, and target-device review.
