Literature Scan

Technique

A desk research technique for quickly reviewing existing writing, reports, papers, or sources on a topic.

Description

A literature scan gives the team a fast view of what is already known. It is lighter than a full literature review and is usually focused on what the project needs now. In immersive work, it can support factual accuracy, design direction, technical planning, or ethical framing.

Typical Use

Used during desk research, concept development, expert interviews, dramaturgical review, design research, grant writing, and proposal preparation.

Scope Note

This technique may include source lists, short summaries, key findings, useful quotes, unresolved questions, and links to deeper reading.
