Lighting Test

Technique

A visual and technical technique for checking how lighting affects mood, visibility, tracking, safety, and performance.

Description

A lighting test checks how lighting choices behave under real conditions. In virtual scenes, it may reveal issues with contrast, shadows, materials, or frame rate. In physical or mixed-reality settings, it may also affect headset tracking, projection, safety visibility, and how participants read the space.

Typical Use

Used during look development, installation planning, safety review, device profiling, art direction, and technical testing.

Scope Note

This technique may include brightness checks, contrast checks, tracking tests, projection checks, material response, headset review, physical room lighting, and performance notes.
