Interaction Spike

Technique

A quick technical prototype used to test whether a specific interaction idea is possible or worth developing.

Description

An interaction spike answers a focused question about interaction. It might test grabbing, gaze selection, hand tracking, object response, multiplayer timing, gesture recognition, or input latency. The goal is to learn quickly before the team commits to a full feature.

Typical Use

Used during rapid prototyping, experience prototyping, interaction design, systems architecture, and technical planning.

Scope Note

This technique may include a small test build, temporary assets, input tests, timing notes, device notes, failure notes, and a recommendation about whether to continue.
