Description

A Foley Artist performs and records sound effects that make bodies, objects, surfaces, gestures, and materials feel present. In immersive media, foley can support embodiment, proximity, tactility, realism, stylization, and participant attention.

Within Sound, Music & Voice, the Foley Artist creates sound through performance and material action. The role can be especially valuable when immersive works depend on close-up bodily detail, physicality, or responsive object behavior.

Scope Note

Includes footsteps, clothing, object handling, material textures, body movement, props, tactile cues, and performed sound effects for linear or interactive use.

Boundary Note

Distinct from general sound design because it focuses on performed, recorded sound effects. Distinct from implementation because it creates source material rather than placing it in the system.
