Emergency Stop Check

Technique

A safety technique for confirming that staff can quickly pause, stop, or exit an immersive experience when needed.

Description

An emergency stop check tests how the experience can be interrupted safely. It confirms that staff know what to do if a participant becomes distressed, hardware fails, tracking breaks, or the physical space becomes unsafe. The check should be simple enough to work under pressure.

Typical Use

Used during safety review, exhibition operations planning, installation setup, facilitation rehearsal, QA passes, and public presentation.

Scope Note

This technique may include stop buttons, staff scripts, emergency gestures, headset removal steps, power controls, reset steps, incident notes, and escalation contacts.
