Creative Constraint Matrix

Technique

A planning technique for showing how creative goals are shaped by technical, budget, schedule, access, or venue limits.

Description

A creative constraint matrix helps the team make tradeoffs clearly. It connects what the project wants to do with what the project can support. In immersive work, constraints often come from devices, performance, physical space, staffing, safety, comfort, budget, and delivery conditions.

Typical Use

Used during concept development, budget planning, risk planning, production scheduling, systems architecture, and stakeholder review.

Scope Note

This technique may include goals, constraints, tradeoffs, priority levels, fallback options, decision owners, and notes on what must be protected.
