Coverage Planning

Technique

A capture planning technique for deciding what camera, scan, or sensor coverage is needed to record a subject or space.

Description

Coverage planning helps the team avoid missing important views, surfaces, movements, or data during capture. In immersive work, missing coverage can affect reconstruction, editing, interaction, or participant viewpoint. The plan should match the final use of the captured material, not just the capture setup.

Typical Use

Used during 360 camera blocking, photogrammetry capture, volumetric capture planning, motion capture blocking, documentary VR, and spatial documentation.

Scope Note

This technique may include shot lists, scan paths, camera positions, overlap checks, performer coverage, object coverage, scale references, and notes on final asset needs.
