Capture Volume Blocking

Technique

A motion or volumetric capture technique for planning how performers move inside the capture space.

Description

Capture volume blocking defines where performers can move, where actions happen, and how the capture system will see them. It helps avoid occlusion, clipped movement, unsafe spacing, and unusable takes. In immersive work, the blocking should also match how the captured performance will appear to the participant.

Typical Use

Used during motion capture blocking, volumetric capture planning, rehearsal workshops, performance direction, avatar production, and virtual production.

Scope Note

This technique may include performer marks, action zones, movement paths, prop limits, camera coverage checks, occlusion checks, safety notes, and take planning.
