Bodystorming

Technique

A design technique that uses bodies, movement, and role-play to test how an experience might work.

Description

Bodystorming lets a team act out an experience before it is built. People stand in for participants, systems, objects, or staff. This makes it easier to test timing, roles, movement, instructions, comfort, and social dynamics.

Typical Use

Used during participatory walkthroughs, experience prototyping, onboarding design, interaction design, rehearsal workshops, and service design.

Scope Note

This technique may include role-play, physical walkthroughs, improvised props, facilitator practice, participant stand-ins, and notes on timing or confusion.
