Asset Integration Artist

Role

Prepares created assets so they work correctly inside the project.

Description

An Asset Integration Artist prepares created assets so they work correctly inside the project: import settings, scale and pivot checks, material hookups, LOD assignment, prefab or blueprint packaging, and naming that matches the project's conventions.

Bad integration fails quietly. A texture imported in the wrong color space, a mesh with compressed normals, a sound at the wrong sample rate — each looks or sounds slightly wrong forever, and nobody remembers why. The integration artist is the checkpoint where those defects get caught once instead of shipped everywhere.

Discipline-Specific Description

Asset integration is the conveyor belt between creation tools and the engine: repetitive when healthy, expensive the moment it is skipped.

Scope Note

Typically includes import configuration, asset validation against project standards, material and shader hookup, LOD and collision assignment, prefab packaging, and fixing assets that arrive broken or noncompliant.

Boundary Note

The Asset Integration Artist works at the asset level — is this thing correct and ready. The Engine Integration Artist works at the scene level — does the material function in context, alongside everything else. Teams often merge the two; the guide separates them because asset readiness and scene function fail differently.

Collaboration Note

Coordinates with 3D and texture artists delivering the assets, engine integration artists downstream, technical artists who set the standards, and asset librarians who track what exists.
