Accessibility Walkthrough

Technique

A review technique for checking whether people with different access needs can enter, understand, use, and leave an immersive experience.

Description

An accessibility walkthrough steps through the experience from different access perspectives. It should begin by the greybox stage and repeat at intervals as the work changes. It looks at physical movement, sensory load, instructions, interaction demands, timing, staff support, and exit conditions, so barriers are found while the design can still change.

Typical Use

Used during greybox review, safety review, installation planning, onboarding design, playtesting, and final exhibition checks.

Scope Note

This technique may include checking routes, seating, captions, audio levels, visual contrast, controller demands, facilitator support, consent steps, and emergency exits.
