UV Layout

Technique

A 3D asset technique for arranging a model’s surface coordinates so textures and materials display correctly.

Description

UV layout defines how a 3D model’s surface is unwrapped into a 2D texture space. Good UVs help textures appear sharp, aligned, and efficient. In immersive work, UV issues are often more visible because participants can inspect objects closely or from unusual angles.

Typical Use

Used during 3D asset production, look development, asset optimization, texture atlasing, shader development, and platform preparation.

Scope Note

This technique may include UV seams, packing, texel density, distortion checks, overlap checks, texture resolution, material assignment, and target-device review.
