Table Read

Technique

A rehearsal technique for reading scripted material aloud to test clarity, rhythm, tone, and structure.

Description

A table read helps the team hear how the written material works before production. It can reveal awkward language, unclear information, weak pacing, or missing context. In immersive work, table reads can also test narration, facilitator language, dialogue, voice prompts, and participant instructions.

Typical Use

Used during rehearsal workshops, voice direction, dramaturgical review, onboarding design, script development, and narrative prototyping.

Scope Note

This technique may include script reading, role assignments, timing notes, tone notes, unclear lines, performance comments, and revision actions.
