Spatial Score

Technique

A planning technique for mapping sound, movement, cues, or events across space and time.

Description

A spatial score helps the team coordinate what happens where and when. It can describe how sound moves, where performers travel, when lighting changes, or how participants are guided through space. In immersive work, it is useful when timing and spatial experience need to be designed together.

Typical Use

Used during spatial audio sketching, rehearsal workshops, sound implementation, installation planning, dramaturgical review, and experience prototyping.

Scope Note

This technique may include spatial paths, timing marks, cue locations, sound zones, movement notes, performer positions, and participant viewpoints.
