Post-Experience Interview

Technique

A research technique for speaking with participants after they complete an immersive experience.

Description

A post-experience interview helps the team understand what participants remember, felt, noticed, misunderstood, or avoided. It is useful because some immersive reactions are hard to capture through observation alone. The interview should be short enough to respect the participant’s state after the experience.

Typical Use

Used after playtesting, usability testing, comfort testing, accessibility walkthroughs, community consultation, and public pilots.

Scope Note

This technique may include recall questions, comfort questions, emotional response, unclear moments, accessibility notes, consent reminders, and follow-up prompts.
