Parameter Mapping

Technique

A technical technique for linking an input, variable, or system state to a visible, audible, or interactive change.

Description

Parameter mapping defines how one value affects another. For example, distance might change sound volume, gaze might change opacity, or participant progress might change lighting. In immersive work, clear parameter mapping helps interactions feel responsive and understandable.

Typical Use

Used during interaction design, shader development, sound implementation, systems architecture, prototyping, and technical art.

Scope Note

This technique may include input values, output ranges, thresholds, curves, smoothing, state rules, and notes on how the change should feel.
