Metadata Log

Technique

A documentation technique for recording key information about files, assets, captures, sources, or production materials.

Description

A metadata log keeps important context attached to production materials. It records what something is, where it came from, who made it, when it was created, and how it should be used. In immersive projects, this is especially useful for captured media, archives, research data, assets, builds, and rights-sensitive material.

Typical Use

Used during data wrangling, archive work, photogrammetry capture, volumetric capture planning, platform packaging, and preservation.

Scope Note

This technique may include file names, source notes, dates, authors, locations, rights notes, version labels, capture settings, and processing status.
