Lore Map

Technique

A worldbuilding technique for organizing the history, rules, places, groups, and backstory of a fictional or speculative world.

Description

A lore map helps the team keep a world coherent. It shows how events, places, characters, rules, and histories connect. In immersive work, it is most useful when the lore supports what participants can see, do, hear, or infer inside the experience.

Typical Use

Used during worldbuilding workshops, story mapping, narrative design, art direction, interaction design, and team alignment.

Scope Note

This technique may include timelines, place notes, character links, world rules, factions, key events, hidden histories, and notes on what the participant needs to know.
