A movement and interaction technique for studying how gestures communicate action, intention, comfort, or meaning.

Description

Gesture study looks at how people use hands, arms, posture, or body movement to act or communicate. In immersive work, gestures may control a system, guide attention, express character, support onboarding, or help participants understand what they are allowed to do.

Typical Use

Used during movement study, interaction design, onboarding design, avatar design, playtesting, accessibility review, and rehearsal.

Scope Note

This technique may include video reference, performer tests, participant observation, gesture sketches, comfort notes, recognition checks, and cultural-context notes.
