Game Engines

Tool Category

Software environments used to build real-time interactive, spatial, or simulated experiences.

Description

Game engines are software environments for assembling interactive scenes, assets, logic, input, rendering, audio, physics, and deployment. In immersive media they often act as the central production environment where design, art, code, interaction, and platform requirements come together.

Scope Note

Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, PlayCanvas, and peers: the real-time environments where immersive works are assembled. Web-first frameworks like three.js sit with web tools despite the overlap.
